Averaging around three hundred and fifty days of pure sunshine, and with an average annual rainfall of eleven inches, Marathon nestles in the grasslands on the northern edge of the Chihuahan desert, surrounded by scenic mountain ranges. These serve as a windbreak for the strong seasonal winds which buffet the rest of West Texas. At about 4,000 feet above sea level , even the hottest days boast cool nights, and the occasional brief thunderstorms provide breathtaking panoramas before quickly moving on.
